Karen Schwartz
I am a largely self-taught artist based and showing work in Atlanta and NYC. I work primarily in painting and drawing, often combining the two with a range of media. My bodies of work veer back and forth from figurative, including large expressionist portraits, to abstract.
“I experiment to see how materials interact. Initial marks build and elaborate into visually coherent wholes without verbal direction from me. Painting is an unconsciously driven, active sport played with large, fast gestures. Scraps and debris collaged into smaller works document the "collect and consolidate" aspect of my process.”
