Colleen Kiely earned a B.F.A. in painting at Rhode Island School of Design and M.F.A. in painting at School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston/Tufts University. Exhibitions at galleries/museums include the Brattleboro Museum, VT; Joseph Carroll & Sons, Boston; Artist's Space, NY; Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY; and MFA/Boston.

Women on the Verge references Almodovar’s 1988 film exploring female identity via striking use of color and pattern. The paintings are process-driven, rooted in art-historical sources from past and present. Starting with sketchbook studies of sources including Manet’s Victoria and self-portraits by Modersohn-Becker, the portraits then morphed through multiple transformations.
