The Painting Center is pleased to present From Michael’s Window, an exhibition of recent paintings and works on paper by Ying Li. All works in the exhibition depict views from the window of Li’s studio in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. Produced over the last two years, these works—created in high volumes of oil paint or combinations of pastel, charcoal, graphite, watercolor and acrylic—reflect Li’s signature style of vigorous gestures and intense color. li works from a deep engagement with the material and the visual possibilities of painting, building a visceral connection with place. To her, the manipulation of paint and the act of seeing are simultaneous and inseparable.
