The Painting Center is pleased to present Alix Bailey: Recent Paintings in the Main Gallery & Project Room. The mostly large figure paintings are a departure from Alix Bailey’s last show of small heads and self portraits at The Painting Center. This newer work is inspired, in part, by a move to a new studio in her Manhattan apartment where the diffused natural light and marble mantle have become an essential part of her current motif. Still propelled by the thrill of the process of working closely from life, she has become increasingly interested in finding a balance between what is invented in response to direct observation and what is invented on the canvas. Alix Bailey has shown her work in New York City, Connecticut and Italy.
