My journey into oil painting is inextricably linked to the path I follow in search of something closest in nature to truth. In a visual form it appears when the painting has taken hold of both mind and imagination and the organizing and controlling voice of analytical thought is quiet. The joy that springs from the process is the driving force of form, color and the rhythm inherent in the work itself; it is elusive and requires patience and practice of many days. Sometimes even longer stretches occur during which I paint, draw, play and ultimately discard the work completed. This path began with early explorations of natural forms that morphed into less realistic subjects which call out to memory and emotion. The painting process itself is deeply grounded in everything that is around and beyond me that sometimes appears in images that are deeply troubling, humorous or simply mysterious. When I find that a painting absorbs my attention and rewards looking, then I offer it to an audience.
