Born and educated in Switzerland, Astrid Fitzgerald has been living and working in NYC and the Hudson Valley since 1961. Her work has been shown in the US, Europe and Asia in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and is represented in many corporate, museum and private collections.
“While much of my work explores modernist aesthetic concerns, it also has a formal basis in philosophical geometry, in particular the Golden Mean Ratio. Some of my paintings and constructions hint at the underlying order and symmetry of the universe, others explore the insubstantiality of matter. I aim to express the subtle movements from depth to surface, from the insubstantial to the concrete, from inner to outer realities, yet always questioning the apparent solidity of matter, of surface and material.”
